The Wood-Mizer exclusive Vortex® dust-removal blade profile is now available in DoubleHard high-alloy steel resulting in a more durable blade that delivers up to twice the toughness and sharp life compared to carbon steel blades. Introduced in 2016, Vortex® dust-removal technology was previously an exclusive feature of SilverTip carbon steel material used primarily in high-production resawing operations.

Patent pending and trademarked for its revolutionary design, the Vortex® blade profile creates an extremely unique turbulence that removes sawdust from the cut. With a typical blade, sawdust can remain on the board by spilling out of the smaller gullet while sawing. By reducing the amount of sawdust left on the board, the Vortex® blade minimizes the need for additional sawdust removal after processing. In addition, Vortex® blades can be sharpened by Wood-Mizer’s blade maintenance equipment or ReSharp® blade sharpening service to extend the flex life of the blade and maintain cut quality.

"The Vortex blades leave 80% less sawdust than any other blades I have tried throughout the past 25 years,” said Mark Borneman with Timber Creek Resources in Antigo, Wisconsin. "We have eliminated the need for a deduster on a majority of our jobs.”

The Vortex® blade is now available to order in both SilverTip and DoubleHard material in a variety of widths, thicknesses, and lengths to fit various sawmill and resaw brands and models. Wood-Mizer offers an extensive range of blades with more than 100 combinations based on profile, width, thickness, tooth spacing, and alloy for any type of sawing or resawing application from green softwoods to abrasive hardwoods. Laona Machine Supply recently unveiled “The Chain Shark”. Invented by Tony Enders, a long-time employee of Laona Machine Supply, who has supervised the maintenance and sharpening of saws for many years. Tony realized that other chain grinders were very expensive and difficult to correctly setup, making it difficult to operate and time consuming. Tony also found that manual grinders lead to operator fatigue leading to a lack of uniformity of grind, improper tooth angle and poor chain performance. The Chain Shark addresses all of these issues and does so at a fraction of the cost of automatic sharpening systems. Quickly and easily sharpens the most popular professional saw chain sizes including the 3/8, .404 and ¾ pitch saw chain on hand saws, firewood processors, slasher saws and harvester heads. Woodland Equipment of Iron River, MI has long been one of the preferred dealers for Risley Equipment’s forestry line, including the popular Rolly harvesting heads. Innovating together has always been a foundational element to the long relationship between Risley and Woodland, and the building of the Risley FB220 is a direct result of that bond. Collaborating, the two teams saw and heard the need for a versatile carrier that would use today’s technology and innovation to give loggers the option of an efficient carrier that’ll still handle full sized heads (6,000 lb).

The Risley FB220 offers many of the industry carrier must-haves: Stability, Attachment Versatility, Excellent Visibility, Fuel Efficiency, and Serviceability, without the Weight (40,000lbs) and Size (9’ 10” wide) of most carriers. Without sacrificing power or production from the undercarriage to the hydraulics, the FB220 hits all the metrics and proves it with production. “We wanted a carrier to handle any head we sell that was sized well for this market,” says Ron Beauchamp, Jr. of Woodland Equipment.

It’s not an improvement to a previous machine, it’s THE NEW Risley FB220, designed and built for today’s logging demands.
